San Pedro is located on the southern tip of Ambergris Caye, an island along the eastern coast of Belize in Central America. It’s about 40 miles (64 kilometers) southeast of the Mexico-Belize border.

NEAREST AIRPORTS
For international flights, the nearest airport is the Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport (BZE) located on the mainland.
For domestic flights, there is also the San Pedro Airport (SPR).
GETTING TO MAHOGANY BAY RESORT

There are 2 ways to get to Ambergris Caye/Mahogany Bay Resort from BZE:
- Puddle Jumper – Domestic Flight
Two airlines offer hopper flights from BZE: Maya Island Air and Tropic Air. You can hop on one of these 20 minute flights directly after arriving at BZE.
- Belize City Water Taxis
Two companies that provide water taxi service from Belize City: San Pedro Belize Express and Caribbean Sprinter.
Note that these water taxi companies don’t offer shuttle service from Belize’s international airport, so be sure to allot around 45 min- 1 hour for the taxi ride from BZE to the port in Belize City.
If this all seems a bit overwhelming, I have good news! Mahogany Bay offers an all-inclusive transportation package that includes roundtrip domestic flights between BZE to the Ambergris Caye island airstrip (SPR) and roundtrip ground transportation directly to Mahogany Bay Resort & Beach Club.
Pro Tip: Once you’ve made your reservation, rely on concierge@mahoganybayresort.com as a go-to resource for logistic questions and answers.
TRANSPORTATION
In San Pedro, Belize the main way to get around is via golf cart. The town of San Pedro is relatively small, and golf carts are a popular and convenient way to get around the resort and town for locals and tourists. You’ll also see people walking and biking!
RENTALS AT THE RESORT: Mahogany Bay provides on-site golf cart rentals with 24/7 customer service and insurance. You’ll be guided to the rental desk upon arrival, it’s conveniently located near the main check-in area.
You can also rent from a local provider but make sure the rate you’re getting includes tax, insurance, gas, emergency services!
We used our golf cart rental to get around the resort and do a little bit of exploring in town!

ONSITE SPA
On the resort grounds you’ll find the Balance Spa & Yoga Loft. Our package included a one-hour couple’s massage, which was the perfect opportunity to unwind and relax. The massage session was so relaxing and left me feeling rejuvenated!
THE BEACH CLUB
The Beach Club by Mahogany Bay was truly a tropical escape that offered both relaxation and adventure. Here you’ll find clear water, comfy cabanas, tons of lounging areas, a full-service bar, beachside service, and private access to Sunset Beach!
You’ll arrive to this private beach club via boat, where your Caribbean haven awaits!
Pro Tip: If you want to reserve a cabana, get there early! They are available on a first-come basis.

GARDEN COTTAGE
We stayed in a lovely Garden Cottage – a perfect choice for two people. We were provided 1-king sized bed in addition to a private porch, 14″ vaulted ceilings, and an outdoor-style shower.
Size: ~ 392 square feet
Garden Cottage Features: WiFi, air-conditioning, ceiling fan, flat-screen TV, safe, luxury bedding, & under-counter refrigerator.
Exclusive Booking Hack: We secured a romantic vacation package (in addition to our nightly rate) that included two roundtrip flights between BZE and SPR, roundtrip ground transfer to Mahogany Bay Resort, a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine, fresh tropical flower decor upon arrival, and a blissful one-hour couple’s massage at Balance Spa. This totaled out to $649 USD + tax per couple (as of December 2023 this price is still the same & it’s an $850 value!).
You’ll want to request the Belize Romance Package after booking through Hilton.com, and the reservations team will contact you directly to add the package to your stay.
THINGS TO DO IN TOWN
Although Mahogany Bay has everything you may need onsite, I highly recommend exploring into town to discover local attractions, dining spots, and experience the vibrant atmosphere at your own pace.
There are plenty of things to do in San Pedro, and below are some of my top recommendations:
- Hol Chan Marine Reserve: Snorkel in the Belize Barrier Reef.
- Secret Beach: Relax on the stunning northern shores.
- Altun Ha: Take a day trip to explore the ancient Mayan ruins.
- Shark Ray Alley: Swim with nurse sharks and stingrays.
- Belizean Cuisine: Indulge in local dishes like stew chicken and fry jacks.
