GETTING FROM NICE TO MONACO

Monaco is easily accessible from Nice (about 12km/7.5miles away) through multiple modes of transportation.

🚆 Train | The train is one of the most popular and efficient ways to get to Monaco. For only ~€6 (one way)/€12 (round trip), you can get a direct ride from Nice’s main train station (Nice-Ville) to the Monte Carlo station (Gare de Monaco-Monte-Carlo).

🚌 Bus | You can also catch a Lignes d’Azur bus from Nice’s bus station (Gare Routière Nice-Thiers) to Monaco. At a price around ~€3 (one way)/~€6 (round trip), the 607 or 608 routes will get you there and back.

I traveled via train and used the app/website Omio. This app has been a lifesaver for getting around Europe. Click here to get €10 towards your trip, or use the search tool below!

🚗 Private Transfer | For a more personalized and convenient service, you can book a private transfer or shuttle service between Nice and Monaco.

🚁 Heliport | For an elevated transfer, there is also the option to take a helicopter from Nice to Monaco. The flight is quick and will offer aerial views of the beautiful French Riviera.

BLADE / MONACAIR

🚘 Car Rental | If you prefer to drive, or already have a car rented for your South of France trip, you can choose to drive yourself along the A8 motorway. Note that parking in Monaco can be limited and/or expensive.

🚕 Taxi | Taxis are also an available option to get you between Nice and Monaco. Make sure to confirm your fare price before starting your trip!

🚖 Uber | You can order an Uber to get you from Nice → Monaco, but from Monaco → Nice, you’ll have to get a taxi or walk about 10 minutes to the Riviera Marriott Hotel Porte de Monaco to get a return Uber!

WHAT TO BRING

If you’re only spending one day in Monaco, you probably won’t need to bring a lot with you. Here’s a list of items you’ll want for a thorough exploration day:

  • Passport/ID | You may need an ID for a border check, although Monaco is part of the Schengen Area. You’ll also need your passport if you plan to enter the Monte Carlo Casino area.
  • Walking Shoes | Monaco is known for its hills, and many attractions will require plenty of of stairs and walking.
  • Water Bottle | Stay hydrated! You’ll probably be doing a lot of walking.
  • Sunscreen | The Mediterranean sun can be intense.
  • Cash | Never a bad idea to have a little bit of cash on you, and if you do a tour (see below) you’ll want to tip your tour guide.
  • Optional: Camera/light jacket/umbrella/swimsuit

MONACO TRAVEL TIPS

DRESS FOR THE MONACO EXPERIENCE

Although you don’t have to be a millionaire to enter Monaco, bear in mind you will be surrounded by extreme wealth. Monaco is an upscale community that exudes sophistication, so while you don’t need to go overboard with designer labels, it’s advisable to present yourself in a neat and well-groomed manner for your visit.

EXPECT A LIVELY COMMUTE

Boarding the train at both Nice and Monaco stations can be quite chaotic. Finding a seat can be quite a challenge, especially during peak seasons or popular travel times, so have your ticket ready to go and expect you may end up standing.

NAVIGATE WITH CAUTION

While Google Maps is my go-to navigation app when traveling abroad, it’s worth noting that in Monaco, Google Maps is not the most reliant app of choice! Because of the winding streets and unique geography Google Maps’ accuracy is not always on point. (I truly didn’t believe this until I got there and experienced it myself!)

Download CityMapper and/or MonaPass for better accuracy.
